Pipe in the Pit

Richard McGrath, miner, Whinney Hill, pleaded guilty to a charge of having a pipe in his possession in the Denaby mine on August 24.

Mr Frank Allen, solicitor, who appeared for the prosecution, said the defendant had made a breach of section 36 of the Coal Mines Act, which constituted a very serious offence. He was searched, and the pipe was found in his waistcoat pocket.

“I need not emphasise the danger of taking these things into the gassy, theory South Yorkshire Mines,” added Mr Allen.

The defendant was ordered to pay 21/6.
