Pit Lockers Theft

Charged with two offences of theft from pithead lockers, a 17-years-old Denaby haulage hand was stated at Doncaster West Riding Magistrates’ Court last Friday to be one of a family of 18 children.

‘While his mother is a good and well-meaning woman, there has been a lack of discipline in the home,’ said Mr. H. Heptinstall, probation officer.

The youth, Frank Bullcroft, Annerley Street, Denaby, who asked for two additional offences of thefts from lockers to be considered, was fined £5 and placed on probation for two years. He was also ordered to pay 15s. costs.

The chairman (Lieut. Col. J. R. P. Warde-Aldam) told Bullcroft: ‘It was a rotten trick to play on your companions. You have been let off very lightly before, but you will find yourself in prison the next time.’
