Pleasant Surprise for former Denaby Manager

Mr Percy Harrison, former secretary – manager of Denaby United, had a pleasant surprise on Saturday. Before the commencement of Denaby game with Hull city, Mr L Moseley, the trainer, presented to him a silver cigarette case which bore the following inscription: “Presented to Percy Harrison by the players and trainer of Denaby United F.C.1935.”

The presentation had been kept a secret by the players and none of the committee or officials knew. In making the presentation Mr Morley spoke of his association with Mr Harrison and said he had treated the players with respect and consideration. Mr Harrison thanked them for their gift which he would always treasure

At a well attended concert in the Denaby Miners Welfare Institute on Monday, Mr Percy Harrison figured in another presentation, this Time with Mr A Davis, financial secretary of the club. On behalf of the football club Mr W Criddle, manager of the Cadeby Main Colliery, presented them both with suitably inscribed gold watches for services rendered to the club during the past five seasons.

Mr Criddle was supported by Mr T.Hill, chairman of the Miners Welfare trustees, and Mr Ben Kelly, chairman of the football club. Mr Harrison, on behalf of Mr Davies and himself, presented Mr Kelly with a fountain pen in recognition of the assistance he had given them. Matt Taylor, the newly appointed secretary – manager of the club, was among the speakers.
