Police Constables Assaulted.

On Monday, at the Doncaster West Riding Police Court, Thomas Walsh, miner, New Conisborough, was charged with being drunk and disorderly and also with assaulting Sergeant Brown at that place on the previous Saturday.

The Sergeant was on duty in Sheffield road, and saw the defendant, who was very drunk, creating a disturbance. He requested the defendant to be quiet, but on his refusing to do so he took the defendant to fie police station, and on the way, the defendant dealt the Sergeant several heavy blows, and also kicked him.

On the first charge the defendant was fined 15s, and on the second 20s., both including coats.

Arthur Dale, collier, New Conisborough, was charged with being drunk and disorderly, and also with assaulting P.c. Evans on the previous Saturday.

P.c. Evans stated that on the date named, about 11-15 in the evening, he was on duty in Denaby road, when he heath a disturbance, and on proceeding to the place be found the defendant surrounded by a crowd of people. The defendant was challenging the crowd to fight, and said he would not be quiet, when requested by witness. He was taken to the police station.

On the way, however, he kicked witness in a very savage manner.

The Bench considered’ a serious assault had been committed, and for the first offence the defendant was fined 20 shillings including costs, or 14 days in default, and for the second year was committed to prison for one month without the option of a fine.
