Practical Gift.
It’s not everyone who gets a heavy duty steel cutting lathe as a 21st birthday present.
Unlike Graham Oakley, of 5, Halifax Avenue, Conanby, it’s not everyone who would want one. But Graham, who was 21 last Thursday, is a machine and floor moulder by trade working with English Steel Co. of Sheffield, so he was pleased when his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Oakley, presented him with this practical present.
Steel isn’t the only interest of Graham, a former Conisbrough Northcliffe High School pupil. He is also keen on fishing, shooting, darts and cricket, and is a member of Stainton Cricket Club and Darts Club, and of the English Steel Angling Club.
He and his father, a Cadeby Main miner, spend much of their spare time rebuilding motor cycles and working with all sorts of mechanical equipment.
Graham was trained at Queen’s Foundry, Swinton. He left to work in Sheffield last September. Members of the family joined on Sunday to celebrate his coming of age.
