Presentation to Irad Webster
There was a large gathering of members of the Conisborough, Doncaster and Kilnhurst branches of the National Union of Distributive and Allied workers, at the Lord Conyers Hotel on Tuesday night, on the occasion of the presentation to Mr. Irad Webster, who on retirement from business, has resigned from the position of treasurer of the Conisborough branch which he has held since 1919.
Mr. E. Sheldrake, chairman of the local branch, presided and introduced Mr. A. E. McVea, the area organiser from Barnsley, who presented to Mr. Webster an easy chair, the gift of his union colleagues.
Mr.Mcvea said that the local branch sought to and and Mr. Webster and his retirement for his services to the union and his work in the cooperative movement. The branch, realising his worth, had provided an easy chair for the eventide of his life in that hope that it would recall a happy associations, it was a gift from the brethren in the cooperative movement.
In 1919 Mr. Webster must have realised necessity for trade unionism in the movement, and it was to such men as him that the organisation that reason to be grateful. Though he had been in a responsible managerial position he had remained loyal to the assistance in his organisation. On behalf of the Conisborough bank he ascended sincere wishes coupled with those of the Doncaster and Kilnhurst members, for a long and happy retirement.
Responding, Mr. Webster said he appreciated the gift. He had been happy with his colleagues, and the union work had been pleasant. The union had done remarkably well for its members, and he wished it every success and the hundred percent. Membership.
Other speakers were Mr. H. Bradley, secretary of the South Yorkshire Federation, and Mr. C Chadwick. A Denaby manager.
A musical programme followed, for which Mr J. B. Knightley was the accompanist.
