Primitive Methodist Bazaar at Conisborough
Yesterday afternoon, the Rev. Jesse Wilson, superintendent of the Mexborough Circuit, opened a two days’ sale of work at the Conisborough Primitive Methodist Church, the object being to wipe out certain liabilities.
Mr. Wilson said that donations of £1 and £1 1s. respectively had been received from Mr. F. W. Fison, M.P., and Mr. Nicholson, Liberal candidate for the division. They were hoping to raise £60 or £70 as a result of their efforts, thereby paving the way to make arrangements for the erection of a new schoolroom.
Referring to the Mexborough Circuit, he said Primitive Methodism had certainly developed recently. They were hoping in a few days to commence building a new church at Thurnscoe, where the land chosen for the site, valued at £180, had been generously given by the Rev. E. Taylor, the lord of the manor, a Church of England clergyman.
The Hickleton Main Colliery Company sent a cheque of £25 towards the scheme, so that before a brick was laid they had some £205 given. Goldthorpe, too, was going ahead.
