Prizenight at Tom Hill Centre

The Annual Presentation night was held in the Tom Hill Youth Centre last Thursday. The occasion was to allow officials of the Doncaster Boys’ League to present the cup for the League championship to the Centre’s under 16 team.

In reviewing the past season Mr. Walsh, club leader, said that it had again been a good one. Three football teams had been maintained – so that a boy leaving school had three grades open to him – Doncaster Boys League, Mexborough and District Youth League, and Mexborough Association League, which, together with the Sheffield Association and Midland League teams of Denaby United F.C. gave five grades of football in the village. The Centre’s three teams had again distinguished themselves as follows: Mexborough Association: Had been in the top four throughout the season and so made the honours play-off only to be defeated in the semi-final: Mexboro’ and District Youth League: This team had been the outstanding team in the league – winning both the League Championship and the Knock-out Youth Cup: Doncaster Boys’ League: For their first season this newly – formed team had won the League Championship and had reached the final of the Knock-out Cup.
The presentations were made by Mr. J. Holmes (secretary of Mexborough and District F.A.) and Mr. R. M. King (vice-president of Doncaster Boys’ League) who was introduced by Mr. E. Turner (chairman of Doncaster Boys League) under the chairmanship of Mr. A. Roberts (vice-chairman of Tom Hill Youth Centre).

Colin Wilcox, who reached the final of the A.B.A. Junior Championships and appeared on the television broadcast of this event, with the trophy which he received on that occasion.

A vote of thanks was given to the officials of the respective leagues and to the Youth Centre committee who by their efforts of loyal service, provided the opportunities for young people to enjoy their leisure.
