Quarrelsome Neighbours at Conisbro’.

Of Saturday, at Doncaster, James Clarke, collier, of Conisbro’, was charged with having assaulted Elisabeth Thurstone, neighbour.

The woman said the man seized her by the throat and knocked her down.

The defence was that the complainant went up to the man in a fighting attitude, and that he only shoved her away. He said when he got home he found there had been a ‘big row’, the complainant having insulted his wife, who was delicate, and who was said to be only walking about to save funeral expenses.”

The case was dismissed
