Ratepayers’ Duty

An interesting experiment is being carried out at Conisborough, where a series of lectures has been arranged by the National Association of Local Government Officers.

The first, given last night, by the Surveyor, was far more than a recital of what the residents in Conisborough get for the rates they pay. It contained very frank statements on the duties of ratepayers.

In effect, he said: If people don’t bother to vote they have no right to complain whatever may be done, or neglected, by the local Council.

We hope that the people to whom the remarks were addressed were present at the lecture.

Very often only enthusiasts will take the trouble to attend any meeting dealing with local government.
