Refusal to Quit – Serial Offender

Refusing to quit at Conisborough.

Joseph Thompson, of Conisborough, was charged with refusing to quit a public house at Conisborough.

Joseph Smith, landlord of the Eagle and child deposed that on Saturday night last, 19th
ult, defending came to his house worse for drink, and asked to be served with more, which was refused. He then became very abusive and refused to go out. He then sent for the police.

Sgt Morley deposed that on the night in question he was called to the Eagle and Child Inn, at 9.45 and went into one of the rooms and found defendant drunk. Requested him twice to go home, and eventually he did so.

PC Garnet, corroborated the evidence of previous witness.

Defendant said he was hawking, and there was a disturbance in the house, and he went in, but would swear he was not drunk.

As defendant had been convicted 13 times before he was now fined 20s and 16s 6d costs.
