Refusing to Quit

New Conisboro’ and Denaby Men Fined

Mr. William Isaac Gibbs, the landlord of the Denaby Main Hotel, prosecuted in two cases.

James Rooney, filler, of New Conisboro’, was summoned for being drunk and refusing to quit the hotel on March 7th.

Mr. Gibbs explained that the hotel was closed from five to six o’clock every Saturday, and last week the defendant entered the dram shop the worse for drink. Complainant refused to have him served, and the latter then went into the large room and refused to leave when requested. The defendant had been barred from the house for some time owing to his bad conduct.

There were several previous convictions against Rooney. He was fined 20s. and costs, or in default 14 days.

For a similar offence on March 10th, John Maughan, miner, Denaby, was fined £1 and costs, or 14 days.
