Remembrance Day
For Sunday’s Remembrance Day parade and service, a procession formed outside the Lord Conyers Hotel, and included representatives of many local organisations, and residents.
The parade moved along Daylands Avenue, Park Road, Morley Place and West Street to the Parish Church, where the Service was conducted by the Vicar, the Rev. G. F. Braithwaite, Methodist Minister, the Rev. D. H. MacDonald, read the address, and Captain Simpson, of the Church Army, read the Roll of Honour and led prayers.
After the service the procession moved down Castle Hill and Low Road to the War Memorial where wreaths were laid. Some Conisbrough British Legion members had attended the ceremonies at Denaby during the morning, and others later attended an evening Memorial Service at Conisbrough Methodist Church.
Officials of the parade were Mr. G. C. Ogilwy (Chief Marshal) and Mr. T. Trout (Parade Marshal). Thanks were extended to all who helped with Poppy Fund collections in Conisbrough and Denaby. Organisations represented were: the British Legion, and Women’s Section, Conisbrough Urban Council, the Territorial Army, St. John Ambulance Brigade, and Nursing Cadets, West Riding Police and Special Constabulary, Scouts, and Parish Church Youth Club.
