Old Denaby Woman’s Fall

A 61 years old or Old Denaby woman was rescued from the icy waters of the canal at Mexborough later Wednesday afternoon by Mr Thomas James, of 37, Old Road Mexborough, who operates the ferry between old Denaby and Mexborough.

Mr James, who hut is nearby hastened to the scene when the mishap occurred.

Mrs Laura Peck, a cleaner, who lives in a railway carriage in Ferry Lane, old Denaby, was returning home after collecting her pension at Mexborough Post Office had reached the bridge when ‘everything went black.’

She remembers no more until she recovered consciousness in the boatman hut where she was receiving attention.

Mrs Beatrice Warren was crossing the bridge at the same time said she saw Mrs Beck fall in.

Mrs Peck is confined to bed suffering from shock and the effects of immersion in the icy water.
