Resignation of the Rev R.P.Roseveare

On Easter Sunday evening, before his sermon, the Rev R.P. Roseveare addressed these words to the congregation:

“It is always difficult and unpleasant for a man to speak of himself, but as I have seen an announcement in the local papers relating to myself, and have been frequently questioned about it, I feel it right that I should without further delay tell you that it is time that I have found it necessary to resign the work which I’ve been doing among you during the last two and half years.
I should like, at the same time, to add that no one can regret my having had to do so more than I regret it myself. It should not have been done if I had not been compelled by those circumstances over which we can exercise no control. In giving you this notice of my departure from Denaby I would ask you to pray that God will finally some other work in His Church and give me grace to do it, and also that He will send to this district some true servant of His will to carry on His work no less devotedly and more successfully than it has been carried on by me, and very honoured predecessors.”

It is generally known that the cause of Mr Roseveare intended resignation is a serious illness of his wife, though we are pleased to state that that lady is recovering. It is not known who will succeed Mr Roseveare nor what his new sphere of life of work will be.

On Easter Monday a party numbering over 80, joined an excursion organised by the referent R.P.and Miss Roseveare and drove to the grounds of Roche Abbey.
