Resumption of Work at Denaby Main Colliery

An official intimation appeared on the gates at the Denaby Main Colliery on Wednesday, to the effect that work will be resumed yesterday.

The news was received with much satisfaction by the men, who have been out of employment since Christmas, owing to the extensive fire in the engine shed, which also demolished the headgear.

Massive iron works now been erected over the shaft and on Wednesday the pulley wheels were finally arranged, ready for the men to descend in the cage.

The families have felt the “pinch,” particularly during the past week, owing to the falling off the amount of subscriptions.

Shortly after operations had been commenced yesterday morning the cage guides became displaced, causing drawing operations to be suspended for the greater part of the day. The men were unable to be drawn for some time, causing little anxiety.
