Mexborough & Swinton Times – Friday 07 October 1892
Retford Town 5 Conisborough 1
The Retford Town club and Conisborough met for the first time this season at Retford, on Saturday, in the presence of a large company.
The home club were able to put their full strength in the field, and they have never been seen to greater advantage. Winning the toss they kicked off towards the railway, with very little wind to assist either side, and from start to finish the game was a fast one.
The home team scored two, and the visitors one before half-time.
On restarting both teams played up with great vigour, and before the call of time the home team registered three more goals; whilst Conisborough, although dangerous at times, were unable to get the leather past the Mexborough custodian, who was particularly safe.
