Retirement after 36 years at Denaby & Cadeby
Mr Albert Backhouse, of 17, Sprotborough Street. Denaby Main. Retired last week after serving 36 years at Denaby and Cadeby collieries. He worked for 22 years as a collier and the last 14 years as a pit head baths attendant.
He was for 20 years a member of union committee and also served on the general-purpose fund committee. He was for some years a deputy check weighman at Cadeby.
Mr Backhouse came to this district in 1910 from Holly bank colliery Staffs. In his younger days he was an athlete of ability. He served in the South African war and afterwards stayed in South Africa for six years, but later returned to England and saw service in the Great War.
