Revised Scheme
For Old People’s Dwellings at Conisbro’
Conisbrough Urban Council surveyor, Mr. G. Chadwick, acting in co-operation with Ministry of Housing and Local Government architects, is to prepare a revised scheme incorporating two storeyed development for flats for old people with warden’s accommodation and a community centre in Conisbrough.
This recommendation by the Housing Committee at a special meeting was confirmed by the Council on Wednesday. It was made after a senior official and two architects from the Ministry had visited Conisbrough in answer to a request by the council for the old people’s bungalow scheme in Marchgate to be retained, even though the Ministry advocated the, erection of flats because of the Iunsuitability of the site for bungalow development.
A Better Scheme
After the meeting of Council) representatives and Ministry officials on Friday, at which Mr. H. G.C. Sutcliffe (Administrative Officer at tbe Ministry), stressed that a better scheme than the Council’s bungalow scheme could be devised, the Council representatives reiterated their preference for bungalows, but intimated that having regard to the difficult site conditions they would accept two storeyed development.
If the technical officers, after further investigation consider this type of development unsuitable, the matter will be again discussed between Council and Ministry representatives.
