Ride On An Underground Road.

December 1896

Mexborough & Swinton Times December 4, 1896.

A Ride On An Underground Road.

A breach of colliery rule 90 was the charge preferred against Jas. Eardley, a pony driver, by the Denaby Main Colliery Co., Ltd., for whom Mr. Allen, solicitor, appeared.

The solicitor explained that the offence was for riding on an underground road without the permission of the manager or under-manager.

John Carter, a deputy in the mine, deposed to seeing the defendant riding in the truck. It was a very dangerous practice, he said, both for the men in the mine and the defendant.

Defendant was fined 20s., to include costs.
