Round About Conisboro’ – Plums, Pears & Apples

The bramble this year is yielding a crop which is excellent in quality and plentiful. Plums are almost non-existent, and pears locally are a failure, but apples are good and plentiful; very good stuff is being offered at 3d. per pound.

Housewives who like to make their own are busy preparing blackberry and apple jam at a very moderate cost.

The Kilner jar for bottling fruit is also in extensive use; by its aid blackberry and apple tart may be had all through the winter.

Mushrooms are also very plentiful just now, but farmers do not relish the raids which are being made on their fields.
