Rovers Won 4 Cups.
Denaby Institute Mark a Phenomenal Season.
Hailing Denaby Institute Rovers phenomenal success last season in gaining four soccer trophies at a celebration gathering in Denaby Main Institute on Friday, Mr J. Halford, Denaby Main colliery manager and President of the Institute, suggested that the National Coal Board might do well in arranging competitive football among the various collieries. If such matches were organised they would help to create a good feeling in the industry. The boys from Denaby and Cadeby collieries would, he thought, acquit themselves well.
Did Remarkably Well.
Mr Halford, who presented the 4 cups and four sets of medals, said the teams had done remarkably well, and he was sure Denaby Main Institute members were proud of their achievements.
Mr W. Astbury, who presided supported by Mr Halford and Mr J Hall (acting manager of Cadeby colliery), congratulated the teams on their wonderful season.
They were undefeated in the Rawmarsh league with 23 points out of 24 and performed the same feat in the Mexborough Minor league, this being won by Denaby Institute Rovers for the fourth successive season without defeat. The Mexborough Junior Cup was also one for the third successive season. The Rawmarsh league cup and championship cup work one for the second successive season and the clubs were runners-up in the Rawmarsh Challenge Cup and semi finalists in the Montagu Cup.
