Ructions At New Conisborough
George Booth, glass blower, Conisborough, was summoned for assaulting Ann Ryan on the 14th ult.
Complainant said she was talking to defendant’s wife, who was a neighbour, when the defendant came out, and commenced abusing her.He picked two bricks up and through them and after upsetting a water tub he went for witness, and seizing her by the shoulders he threw her down, rendering her unconscious.
By Mr. Baddiley (for the defence) : She was quite sober at the time. She had been to a doctor, who advised her to go to bed. Her arm was still in a sling.
Elizabeth Proudman corroborated, as also did Hannah Tingle and Sarah , Baker.
For the defence Mr. Baddiley stated that the defendant was first struck by a broom handle, after she had made a nasty remark about him, and when she was in the act of striking him again, when he rushed up and stopped her. He afterwards went to P.C. Evans and made a complaint about the women.
Arthur Watkins said the complainant made use of some very offensive language to defendant, whereupon he ordered her away. She attempted to strike Booth with a broom handle, but he put up his hand and warded off the blow.
Harry Wroe, night watchman for Mrs Kilner Bros also gave evidence for the defence, and the Renal dismissed the case.
