Runaway Horse

On Monday afternoon the Fitzwilliam foxhounds passed the Hill Top Tavern, near Conisborough, where a travelling vendor of paraffin oil was regaling himself with the needful.

The van was at the door, and on seeing the hounds, the horse (which is reported to be an old hunter) started off in pursuit, taking the van and contents. The vendor rushed out of the house, shouting and running fast as he could, but he was losing ground, when gentleman on horseback galloped after the old hunter and succeeded in reaching his head, tins preventing any damage.

The chase was nearly mile down the centre of the road, and had the other horses jumped any of the fences the old hunter would have made a wreck of the van.
