Sad Case of Destitution

A sad case of destitution was observed at Denaby last week, when the wife of a local working accompanied by her child, decided to go to the Doncaster workhouse.

The women and her child were both neatly dressed, though they wore no fine clothes, and the poor women, with tears flowing down her cheeks, besought Doncaster tradesman to give her a lift on the rued to that house which poor people abhor, and the request was willingly complied with.

It appears the woman’s husband is an Army pensioner, and having drawn a pension was away spending it, whilst the poor wife and child were practically on the verge of starvation.

Such inhuman scandals deserve all they may get, and this case is likely to be heard of in another direction before long.
