Safe Return
A Model Plane, belonging to a Conisbrough model flying enthusiasts, Peter Thorpe (15), son of Mr. and Mrs. John Thorpe, of 54, Park Road, failed to return to base after a flight on Tuesday in a field at Kearsley which Mr. R. H. Harrison, of Conisbrough Parks, kindly allows members of Conisbrough model flying club to use for their pastime.
Peter’s plane, which is powered by a diesel motor, disappeared in the direction of Clifton on what had already been decided should be the last flight of the evening as it was getting dark.
There is a silver lining to this story, however, for the following evening Peter got his plane (which he has built himself from a kit) back. The plane, which bore Peter’s name, address and phone number was seen resting in a tall tree in the parks area by Tony Trickett, of the Windmill estate, Conisbrough and some companions.
Tony valiantly scaled the tree, “salvaged” the aircraft and returned it to its base – Peters home. He and his friends were suitably rewarded.
