Safe Robbery at Conisborough
The premises of Mr William Wilson, sawmills, were broken into by a band of burglars some time between Sunday night and Monday morning last, when the safe was completely destroyed, and most of the contents taken away.
The safe was of the orthodox style and make, the outer case being of hardened steel with an asbestos lined inner case.
Judging from appearances the thieves have had previous experience of this kind of business, for a hole had been drilled in the safe door, just above the keyhole, the inner case battered away; in this manner they were able to get the door unlocked and get out the contents.
As luck would have it, the contents were not of very valuable nature, and the depredators got little for the trouble, beyond the number of old silver and bronze coins, of various values.
The most fortunate thing is that the books and documents were not taken away, although the life policy of Mr Wilson had been trampled underfoot, but not destroyed.
We trust the guilty parties will soon be in the hands of the police.
