“Salty” Victorious
Joseph Thompson, alias “Salty,” shoemaker, Conisboro’, was summoned for having been drunk and disorderly at that place on the 5th inst.
Police-constable Poole stated that he saw the defendant on Sheffield Road, Conisboro’, standing against the Red Lion Inn. The defendant would not give his name for some time, and threatened to “mark” him.
Defendant said he could bring all Conisboro’ for witnesses to prove that he was not drunk. He could not walk about in comfort at Conisboro’. New policemen were “planted” in the parish, and the old ones told them tales because he had been before the Bench so often.
The Chairman said there was no evidence of disorderly conduct, and the constable in his examination in chief had not even said that the defendant was drunk. The case would be dismissed.
The Defendant: “Thank you, worships, it’s nothing but right.”
