School Overcrowding

Conisbrough Hut Urgency

“I have never heard such tripe in my life,” commented Mr. A. Carlin at Conisbrough Primary School Managers’ meeting last night after a letter from the County authority regarding the provision of a hut for use as additional classrooms at Morley Place School had been read.

The letter stated that when the site was first inspected it was felt that no special precautions regarding the foundations were necessary. Now the Mining Engineer felt that special reinforced foundations would be necessary because of subsidence danger, and the County Architect would have to review the scheme.

It was suggested that this meant the provision of a concrete raft for the foundations.

Mr. Carlin asked how long the temporary hut would remain there and added that he thought no raft was necessary.

The Committee decided to inform the County that they felt special precautions were not necessary. They also asked that in view of the urgent need the work be put in hand immediately.
