Scouts’ Death.  

Mr. Alfred Smith (Slim) (26), of 10. Oliver Street, Mexborough, the crane-driver who was fatally injured recently when the steam hammer of a crane he was driving at a Swinton works dropped from the jib and pulled the crane over, is well-known in Conisborough.

Born in Mexborough and educated at Morley Place School, Conisborough, he was the son of a well known pianist. Mr. Eddy Smith.

He leaves a widow and one child. Mr. Smith had been a Scout all his life and formed a group of Scouts in Mexborough.

Before working at the Swinton works he was employed by Mr. E. Sutcliffe of Swinton as a lorry driver. He was a clever accordionist.
