It will take quite a lot to get Denaby United player – manager Harry Hough -down. A lot more than a 7-1 home defeat by Worksop that is.
After a bright start with an 1-1 draw against Belper, who were pinned in their own half for the best part of the game, Denaby crashed last season’s runners-up Worksop.
But despite that defeat by Worksop, Denaby fans, the most faithful of whom must have had their doubts about the coming season, were heartened by the display put up against Belper.
Half of last season’s first-team left because of the club’s financial difficulties and the new team were brought together during the summer months.
They were unlucky not to win the Belper match, but at least they prove that they are not ready to be written off yet.
