Trespassing in Pursuit of Game
Arthur Beal, labourer, Mexborough, was also charged by Mr. Horsburg with trespassing in pursuit of game on land at Denaby, over which Earl Fitzwilliam had the right of shooting, on the 3rd inst. Mr. Parker-Rhodes prosecuted.
Police-constable Midgley was passing through Spring Wood, Denaby, when his attention was drawn to the defendant, who was shouting to his dog. Beal was on the canal bank, with a double-barrel gun in his possession, and was endeavouring to get the dog to cross the water. As soon as he had succeeded in this attempt, the dog began to range the wood.
The defendant said that he was only in search of water hens.
He was fined 20s. and costs, or one month’s imprisonment in default.
