Shocking Accident on the Railway at Denaby
On Saturday a distressing accident occurred on the railway sidings at the Denaby Main Colliery.
A man named John Green, of Melton Street, Denaby Main, in the employ of the colliery company, while coupling some wagons, was knocked down and run over.
So terrible was the mutilation that death must have been instantaneous. One of his feet accidentally got caught I the “points” ansd being unable to extricate himself, some moving wagons ran against him, causing him to drop with his face on the metals.
The wheels then passed lengthways over his body, literally dividing it in two.
At the inquest evidence was given proving his death to have been caused accidentally, and a verdict was returned accordingly.
