More Conisbrough And Denaby Retailers At Your Service.

Mr. Eric Dickinson, M.P.S.. proprietor of E. H. Dickinson (Chemists) Ltd., who now have branches at Denaby and Goldthorpe, in addition to the original premises at West Street, Conisbrough, has provided the most modern facilities at all three shops. Easy to view counters enable peope to select their own merchandise If required, the firm’s experienced assistants are available to give advice on different products and to help customer to find the articles they are looking for.

In addition to the pharmaceutical side they stock a wide range of cosmetics and have a first class photographic department, with cameras by the leading makes and an excellent stock of photographic accessories.

There may be some mixed feelings prevalent among Co operative members in Denaby in respect of the recent merges with the Doncaster Society; in fact, what has happened is part of a pattern which is evolving all over Britain—the Cooperative movement is in the process of a revolutionary change in its ideas—and its organisation. Up to a few years ago the movement offered a `Trading Service to members, when profit margins were sufficient to allow for individual attention to requirements, and left enough to reward the supporters with a dividend.

However, retailing ideas since then have also undergone massive changes and competition in this field has become fierce — consequently the faithful Co-operative members have been tempted into the cut-price parlours of private traders.

The movement is not complaining —or crying over spilt milk, but re-organising its assets to meet this challenge. In time, when all the Societies in the country are welded into one unified effort, the movement will once again be riding high and offering a service second-to-none.

In the meantime, all non-essential expenses must be cut —properties must be concentrated into units that pay their way, and this merger is just one of the steps which are necessary to fulfil the overall objective.

“It’s all at the Co-op now!” —that is the message being flashed on television screens all over the country—members can take pride in their organisation and be re-assured that all positive steps are being taken to reach that objective.
