Although Conisbrough is situated on one of the busiest roads in South Yorkshire – the Doncaster-Sheffield road – one person who finds this no help to trade is Mr. Jack Harding, licensee of the Red Lion Hotel.

Mr. Harding says that the roads are so badly lit and the traffic travels so quickly that road users go through the township without even realising it.

‘The Council could help here by installing better lighting, not only from the trading point of view, but because of the danger on this road,’ – said Mr. Harding, ‘And personally I am trying to persuade the brewery to floodlight the Red Lion – at night I even tend to miss the place myself!’ he added.

Mr. Harding’s speciality is his catering, especially for booked parties and weddings – ‘I can accommodate about 70, and do all the catering myself,’ he said.

In addition he provides breakfasts, morning coffee’ lunches and hot and cold snacks – providing attractive meals in an attractive setting.
