A Silly Trick at Conisborough
Frank Hawke, labour, Conisborough was charged with travelling on the great Central Railway without a ticket on 31 December.
The Conisborough stationmaster stated that on the date in question as the 9:30 p.m. train from Doncaster came into the station he was stood near the booking offices, when he saw two men in a third class compartment.
The defendant was near the off door and something arousing his suspicion, he ran to the compartment. Witness got into the compartment just as defendant was getting off the second step on the off side. He asked what he was doing and the defendant asked if the defence could not be overlooked.
A fine of 20 shillings including costs was made.
