Sister will be his Pacemaker.

South Yorkshire Times, October 10.

Sister will be his Pacemaker.

At the age of 11, Anthony Dawson, of Doncaster Road Denaby Main, has already set his sights on becoming a good swimmer.

He will find there is plenty of work are hard work involved, but at least he will be able to look for encouragement to the fine example set by his sister Rosalene.

Like her younger brother Rosalene (14), is a pupil of Conisbrough Northcliffe High School, and a member of the extremely successful Denaby and Conisbrough Swimming Club.

She joined the club four years ago, and encouraged by her father, Denaby miner, Mr Albert Dawson, has gone from strength to strength, until this year she swept the board by winning the under 15 girls freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke championship at the annual club Gala – for the second successive year, as well as claiming the 1964 individual medley event.

What is more, earlier in the year she ran away with the same three main events in the Conisbrough Urban Councils School Gala, and urban previous record also includes successes in Divisional Youth Swimming competitions.

She swims for her club team of course, but has represented Don and Dearne schools this year in a match against Doncaster schools.

Certificate Holder

On paper Rosalene’s record is equally impressive. She holds Amateur Swimming Association Medallist and Advance awards, Royal Life Saving Society qualifications, and has achieved A.S.A. Gold Standard in Personal Survival.

All this spells out Rosales talent, with a capital T, and can be, of course, a great encouragement to her younger brother, who has already started to prove himself in his own right with successes at junior school and club swimming Gala’s.

“I know he wants to do as well as his sister,” Anthony’s father told me on Monday.

“I have always encouraged them to be all-rounders, and Anthony is keen on football as well swimming,” he added.

Rosalie would like to become a swimming instructor’s, but she’s too keen on other sports like basketball and hockey.”

At present the Dawson’s living room sideboard is a mass of swimming awards – most of them are Rosaline’s, but it looks as though before long, she may have to move them over a little, or buy a new sideboard for Anthony.
