Drowned at Mexborough

an inquest was out, before Mr D Wightman, coroner, yesterday, twitching the death of George Tayles, aged six, son of Thomas Tayles, an employee at the Conisborough glass bottle manufactory.

The child had gone with some playmates to the canal side on Sunday afternoon, to “look for fishes,” and, while stooping all the water, fell in.

A little girl tried to get him out by means of an umbrella, but could not. The body was subsequently recovered.

The child had been to the Wesleyan Sunday School in the Morning. News of the occurrence was sent to the father, who had gone away to Leicester for a few days.

A Verdict of “Accidentally Drowned” Was Returned.
