Soap Box Derby to be filmed
Thanks to Conisbrough Cine Club members, the budding Jim Clarks who risk life and limb in the local Soap Box Derby this Saturday will afterwards be able to brush up on their driving technique.
The cine club members plan to film the thrills and spills on the Conisbrough Craggs course and will probably show the completed film to the young drivers later this year.
“This should turn out to be one of the most interesting subjects we have filmed,” commented cine club vice-president Mr. G.S. Coe on Tuesday.
The club has made valuable records of other local happenings and has only recently completed a documentary film spotlighting Conisbrough’s history and industry.
On Monday members surveyed the winding Craggs course, picking out vantage points for the half dozen or so cameramen who will cover the Derby.
The individual films will be edited and joined as a complete record of the competition. Film will also be made of presentations to the winners at Tom Hill Youth Centre.
“We shall be willing to let the lads see the film when it is completed later this year – they should enjoy it, “added Mr. Coe.
About 16 competitors are expected for the Derby, starting at 2 p.m. with pit inspection at Tom Hill.
