Wounded

Guardsman Walter Ashby, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Ashby, of Woodside Bungalow, Old Denaby, has been wounded while serving with the Central Mediterranean Forces.
He has been abroad for twelve months. Gdsmn. Ashby, who was 22 on March 6th, joined the Army three years ago and was formerly a joiner at Hadfield’s.

Before enlisting, he was for three years in the Home Guard at Denaby Main. His father, who is a special constable at Denaby, served throughout the last war and his mother is a member of the St John Ambulance Brigade (nursing section) and of the Civil Nursing Reserve.

Gdsmn. Ashby has an elder brother, Thomas (30), who has been in the Navy four years, while another brother, Frederick, 19, has volunteered for the Navy.
His brother-in-law, Stoker Joseph Wright, is in the Merchant Navy.
