Promoted to Rank of Major
Captain Jim Collingham, of Denaby, has been promoted to the rank of Major. Major Collingham is the son of Mrs. E. Jones, of 41, Cliff View, Denaby Main, by a former marriage. His father, the late Mr. J. Collingham, served in the last war with the K.O.Y.L.I. Major Collingham joined the Scots Guards 16 years ago and has seen many years’ service abroad. He was attached to the Middle East Forces for some time.
In a letter to his parents a few days ago, he mentioned promotion and on Wednesday his younger brother, Pte. Tom Collingham, who is also with the Middle East Forces with the R.A.O.C., wrote home to say that he had been moved with the rank of Major dating from August 20th.
Mrs. Collingham and her two children are in South Africa. Major Jim Collingham was attached to the Parish Church and always made a point of attending a service when home on leave. Some time ago he wrote to the Vicar and recalled the happy days he had spent in the village and at the Church.
