Lance/Bombardier William Henry Hill, of 43, Athelstane Road, Conisbrough, has been in the Middle East for over a year, and is serving with an anti-aircraft regiment.
He was called up immediately on the outbreak of hostilities.
He saw service in many parts of this country, including Portsmouth during Its blitz, before being posted abroad.
He was formerly employed at the Cadeby Main Colliery.
