Conisbrough Response

To Wombwell War Widow’s Query

The photograph in our last issue of a Wombwell soldier named Saville, who was recently killed in action, has resulted in Mrs. Lilian Jones, of 2, Rowena Road, Conisbrough identifying the other soldier in the picture as that of her husband, L/Cpl. Albert Edward Jones (29).

Saville’s wife, Mrs. M. H Saville, lives at 6, Clarkscroft, Wombwell. L/Cpl. Jones has written his wife saying he was with Saville when he was killed in action in Italy. They made a cross for him in oak and one of the soldiers, who is a painter and decorator, lettered the appropriate details on it.

Jones has been in the Army four years and abroad since October, 1942, He formerly worked at Conisbrough Gas House and before that at Conisbrough glass works for seven years. Married with two children, L/Cpl. Jones is son of Mrs. and the late Mr. A. H. Jones, Rowena Road.
