Died of Wounds

Mr. and Mrs T. Jones, of 110, Doncaster Road, Denaby Main, have received news that their youngest son, Gdsmn. Alan Jones (19) of the Scots Guards, died of wounds while serving with the Central Mediterranean Forces.

Alan had intended to make his career in the Army, and with this intention voluntarily enlisted on his 18th birthday.  In Dec. 1942.  He was at home for his 18th birthday and the Christmas holiday last year, and sailed from England in January. He was reported as having been fatally wounded on Feb. 16th.

Writing to his parents, the Lieut. Col. of the regiment expresses deep sympathy with Mr. and Mrs. Jones and says: “His loss will be deeply felt by his comrades both in the Forces and at home.  His courageous fighting was of the highest standing.”

Gdsmn. Jones was employed in the painting department of the Denaby and Cadeby Collieries prior to his enlistment.
