Soldier’s Broadcast
Mrs. Jones and her family of five children last Sunday morning heard the voice of “Daddy” in Ceylon coming through the wireless loudspeaker. Their home address is 86, Annerley Street, Denaby Main, and many people who heard the messages were interested, too, when they knew it was a Denaby soldier sending his message of love and good wishes to his loved ones at home.
Gunner Wilfred Jones was in the local Territorial, and at the outbreak of war was called from the Cadeby Colliery. He has been in France, and was also at the evacuation of Dunkirk. Later, he was dispatched to the Far East, and has been in Ceylon for the last 18 months or so.
Many neighbours and friends were ready for the broadcast last Sunday, which came through very clearly. He sent his love to his wife and children, and mentioned them each by name, also to his parents and sisters and brothers, and then he gave a short message for one of his pals.
