On Leave
Nursing Officer Madge Leonard, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Leonard of 53 Drakehead Lane, Conisbrough, has recently returned from Nigeria in West Africa for a month’s leave. Miss Leonard, who was trained at the Royal and Jessop’s Hospitals, Sheffield, was at Preston Royal Infirmary when war broke out.
In April 1942 she joined Queen Alexandra’s Military Nursing Service Reserve. She went to West Africa, and during the 18 months she has spent there although she has enjoyed it, she is disappointed that she has felt more out of the war than ever. She has been nursing convalescent soldiers and has never heard even a bomb during the whole course of the war.
Her trip home was quite uneventful. She is hoping that she will be able to play her part in the offensive.
