Home Guard Honoured
When Mr. Eden broadcast his appeal to volunteers to form the L.D.V. in the dark days of 1940, Mr. E. P. Needham, a soldier of the last war, answered the call immediately.
Since then, he has applied himself to his duties with a diligence that has won the admiration of all with whom he has come into contact, and the high esteem of his superior officers, who later promoted him to the rank of Lieutenant. He has now been honoured by the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command, who has awarded him a certificate for good service.
Since his training at Strensall in 1942, Lieut. Needham has been responsible for the preparation and the building of a bombing range. During this time he has been responsible for the supervision of live bobs and he has carried out his duties with a care and enthusiasm which has been of vital importance in the training of and the creation of confidence in the men of his company.
Lieut. Needham spent three years in France in the last war with the Lincolnshire Regiment.
