F.H. Nicholson (York and Lancs) killed

Frederick H Nicholson, son of Matilda Nicholson, 7 Holywell Villas was killed in action August 26.

His mother received the news on Saturday from the War office. Private Nicholson was only 19 and had enlisted in August 1915 and went to France in December.

Sgt Davies in a letter to Mrs Nicholson speaks of private Nicholson’s devotion to duty and assured her of the sympathy of his platoon. Two solder chums, named Atkinson and Wagstaffe, had previously notified their comrade’s death to the sorrowing mother.

Private George William Nicholson (York and Lancs) was killed July 1 – was cousin to private Nicholson. His brother-in-law was wounded some time ago and was invalided Aylesford, Kent

Mrs Nicholson has several other relative serving. Private Nicholson was killed instantly by a shell which fell in the advanced trenches. Previous to enlistment he was employed at Cadeby Main.
