Killed In Action
News was received on Friday by Mrs. Wood, of 54 Barnburgh Street, Denaby Main, that her husband, L/Cpl. B. Wood, of the York and Lancaster Regiment, had been killed in action in France on August 18th.
L/Cpl. Wood had seen 12 ½ years’ service and had served 9 ½ years in India and the Burma front. He returned to England in January, 1943, and had been married about 14 months.
He went to France on June 10 and while serving there his wife received the news that her husband and his pal (L/Cpl. B Jones) had been instrumental in saving the life of a major and another officer from a car which had caught fire through a mine.
LCpl. Wood was the son of the late Mr. Wood and of Mrs. Wood, of
