Cairo Meeting.
Mrs. D. Rush, of Sandall Road, Conisbrough, was surprised last week-end to receive two letters from her son, Sig. “Bill” Ward of the R.A., and from her adopted son, Tpr. G. Smith, of the Tank Corps, informing her that they had both met in the Middle East for the first time since they joined up.
Bill Ward was called up at the outbreak of war, being a reservist with eleven years’ service. He formerly worked at Brodsworth Colliery.
Tpr. G. Smith joined up before the war, and has been overseas for nine months. He worked at Cadeby Colliery and prior to that won a scholarship from Mexborough Secondary School for entry to the R.A.F., but failed on account of foot trouble.
Their letters home speak of great rejoicing when they met in Cairo in March.
